On November 3rd, Chung Wah Community Care (CWCC) hosted an unforgettable Open Day to celebrate the grand opening of Evergreen College's brand new Bayswater campus! It was a lively gathering as local government officials, community leaders, and representatives from multicultural organisations came together to mark this significant milestone.
In his speech, Mr Dan Bull, Member for Bayswater, emphasised that learning is more than the accumulation of knowledge; it is a bridge that connects people. He praised Evergreen College for providing a space where individuals of all ages and backgrounds can find a sense of belonging through learning. City of Bayswater Councillor Mr Cale Black also commended CWCC for its ongoing contributions to promoting inclusion and cultural diversity, announcing that the City would continue to support Evergreen College's development. Ms Helen Smith, the City's Manager of Community Development, noted that the college's focus on active ageing and inclusive communities represents best practice in supporting the City's healthy ageing objectives.

The Evergreen College at Morley Community Centre began in November 2024 and has been embraced by the community for its varied, flexible programs for the well-aged and seniors. In just eight months, we've offered over 20 courses and workshops, bringing together 929 participants eager to learn and connect. The response has been incredible, and it's no surprise that many sessions quickly filled up due to the venue's limitations and high demand.
Now officially relocated to Bayswater, Evergreen College offers North of River residents a larger, more accessible learning space and extended activity hours. This move represents a significant step forward in CWCC's mission to strengthen community connections, promote cultural integration, and enhance the quality of life for migrants. As Mrs Theresa Kwok, the CEO of CWCC, stated in her address, Evergreen College aims to help migrants establish a "second home" in Australia, where they can remain connected to their familiar language, culture, and community.

The opening day was filled with festive joy, as local seniors performed music and dance, showcasing the vibrancy of multicultural expression. Following the performances, a community lunch brought guests and residents together to share stories and exchange ideas in a warm, celebratory atmosphere.
CWCC Evergreen College Principal Ms Nu Nu Chen shared an inspiring vision for the coming program, highlighting that beyond health, lifestyle, and cultural classes, the college will create a “Community Info Corner” and “Carers' Teatime” to empower and support seniors from diverse backgrounds. The college is committed to collaborating with local councils and partner organisations to unveil more creative and intergenerational initiatives, fostering a vibrant and inclusive community for all.

The CWCC Evergreen College Bayswater campus is now open at Drill Hall Bayswater, operating on Mondays and Thursdays. For details or enrolment enquiries, please get in touch with Holly on 9328 3988.
