To mark its 40th anniversary, Chung Wah Community Care (CWCC) hosted two commemorative morning teas at the Balcatta Community Hub in November. The first event on the 15th welcomed clients from the northern suburbs, with enthusiastic participation from Vietnamese seniors and the special addition of a Vietnamese-speaking host. The second event on the 18th brought together clients from the southern suburbs, with seniors of Spanish-speaking backgrounds adding a vibrant multicultural touch to the celebration.

The events began with an inspiring speech by CWCC’s CEO, Theresa Kwok. She highlighted CWCC’s journey to becoming Perth’s largest multicultural service provider, attributing its success to the steadfast support of its senior clients. Looking ahead to upcoming reforms in the aged care sector, Theresa reaffirmed CWCC’s unwavering commitment to delivering high-quality care for the immigrant community.

CWCC’s Board Chairperson, Esther Chang, encouraged seniors to maintain an active and engaged lifestyle. She emphasised CWCC’s remarkable adaptability and dedication to evolving services to meet the diverse needs of seniors, ensuring that every individual finds joy in activities, friendships, and lifelong learning.

The northern suburbs’ event on the 15th featured a captivating tai chi performance by the Liaoshude Tai Chi Team, which offers weekly classes at the Balcatta Community Hub, promoting health and vitality among seniors. On the 18th, the Wenxin Dance Group delivered an elegant performance, earning rounds of applause. Their weekly classes at the Willetton Community Hub enrich seniors’ lives with artistic expression.

The celebrations concluded with heartwarming group singalongs. On the 15th, CWCC staff and senior clients joined voices to perform Friends, with Chinese-speaking staff singing in Vietnamese and Vietnamese staff singing in Chinese. On the 18th, staff delivered a bilingual rendition of Tomorrow Will Be Better in English and Chinese, expressing hopes for CWCC’s future. These cross-cultural, multilingual exchanges vividly embodied CWCC’s openness, sincerity, and dedication to supporting the immigrant community.
