On 25 November, Chung Wah Community Care (CWCC) celebrated the Evergreen College Open Day at the Morley Community Hub, welcoming a vibrant crowd of local residents. This milestone event marks a new chapter for CWCC’s cherished Evergreen College, extending its inspiring programs to uplift even more community members.
Evergreen College has always been a beacon of inspiration within CWCC, encouraging seniors to embrace life with enthusiasm. The college has profoundly enriched lives through a vibrant selection of cultural and craft workshops, professionally guided exercise sessions, and engaging interest-based classes. Its appealing excursions invite seniors to explore the stunning natural landscapes and cultural gems of Australia, fostering connections and nurturing a sense of belonging in their new home.
During her opening remarks, CWCC’s CEO, Theresa Kwok, reaffirmed the organisation’s mission to help seniors’ live lives of choice, dignity, and joy. She highlighted how Evergreen College encourages seniors to make new friends and stay active, embodying the idea of “ageing with purpose.” CWCC Board Chair Esther Cheng emphasised the importance of maintaining physical and mental vitality for seniors who wish to age at home. “Evergreen College offers the perfect support system to help seniors step out of their homes, engage with the world, and live life to the fullest,” she said.
A special guest from the City of Bayswater also praised CWCC’s efforts, noting that the new Morley Evergreen College is tailored to meet the needs of the CALD (Culturally and Linguistically Diverse) community. “This inclusive space is designed to give seniors from all cultural backgrounds a place where they can feel truly at home,” the spokesperson said.
The Open Day was alive with energy, featuring mesmerising tai chi and dance performances that received rapturous applause. Inspired by the displays, many seniors eagerly expressed their interest in joining the classes. CWCC announced that tai chi and dance classes would kick off at the Morley Evergreen College in December, with sessions scheduled for 2, 9, and 16 December 2024, as well as 13, 20 January, and 3, 10, 17, and 24 February 2025. Classes will take place at Morley Community Hub, 6A Blades Close, Morley, WA 6062.
