Towards the end of 2024, Chung Wah Community Care (CWCC) hosted a series of outings for seniors, combining nature’s beauty with cultural experiences. These trips allowed participants to relax, explore local life in Australia, and connect with one another, creating joyful and unforgettable memories.
The adventures took our seniors to the breathtaking corners of Western Australia. They wandered through tranquil forests in the serene Perth Hills, breathing in the fresh air and vibrant greenery. With the guidance of CWCC’s outing experts, they uncovered the remarkable features of local plants, some previously unknown to them! At a nearby orchard, they engaged joyfully with the staff, handpicked fresh fruits and veggies, and returned home with baskets filled with delicious local produce.
CWCC also planned special outings for Filipino seniors to create at the Mason Mill Café & Beer Garden, where they enjoyed scrumptious food in a calm, green setting. They shared laughter and stories from their lives. At Karagullen Orchard Farm, the seniors walked along peaceful woodland trails and reconnected with nature, feeling refreshed and grounded.
These outings were about so much more than just sightseeing. They gave the seniors a chance to step outside their usual routines, make new friends, and build meaningful connections. By the end of each trip, the participants were joining in conversations, sometimes using a mix of simple English and lively hand gestures to chat with staff and guides. The atmosphere was buzzing with warmth and friendship.
Beyond the fun and relaxation, these experiences helped the seniors feel more at home in Australia. CWCC’s CEO, Theresa Kwok, inspired the group with encouraging words: “Since Australia is your new home, think of it as your second hometown. When you visit family and friends, what stories will you share about your experiences here?”
Mrs. Kwok inspired seniors to embrace their new environment and create their own stories. During these trips, they became active participants, connecting with Australia’s culture and nature. Their smiles captured in every photo reflected the bonds they were forming with their new home.
CWCC organises diverse activities to help elders adapt and integrate into Australian life. The journey continues with exciting plans for 2025, offering even more opportunities for learning and enjoyment.
