Carers are the quiet heroes of our community, dedicating themselves daily to the care and well-being of their loved ones with unwavering love and resilience. Their efforts keep families together and provide a strong foundation of emotional support across society. In honour of their selfless dedication, Chung Wah Community Care (CWCC) hosted a series of events for National Carers Week in mid-October, offering carers a well-earned opportunity to relax, recharge, and reconnect.
The Wellness Workshop for Carers at CWCC was supported by Carers WA and Lotterywest in celebration of Carers Week 2024. These events are designed to teach carers valuable techniques for enhancing their mental and physical well-being through immersive workshops that provide essential respite.
On October 14th, CWCC’s Willetton Community Hub came alive with the “Weave Your Worries Away” workshop, attracting many carers eager to participate. Guided by professional instructors, carers created vibrant woven pieces using colourful materials and traditional weaving techniques. Engrossed in the therapeutic rhythm of weaving, participants found themselves releasing stress and untangling their thoughts, gaining a renewed sense of calm and clarity.
The next day, CWCC’s Balcatta Community Hub held a Tai Chi wellness session, offering carers the chance to reconnect with their bodies and minds. Led by an experienced Tai Chi instructor, participants gently moved through Tai Chi sequences to soft music, enjoying the tranquillity of the slow movements and letting go of the day-to-day stress of caregiving. Bathed in the warm spring sunshine, carers felt the physical and emotional weight ease as they embraced a much-needed moment of peace.
Reflecting on the experience, many carers shared how weaving and Tai Chi offered not only stress relief but also new tools for emotional balance. As one participant described, “Focusing on art and movement allowed me to rediscover my inner strength; it felt as though the whole world slowed down for a moment.”
After each workshop, carers were treated to meals prepared by CWCC and received keepsake gifts as tokens of appreciation. Many noted that these events introduced them to others with shared experiences, creating a sense of community and support and helping them regain strength to face their daily challenges.
CWCC has long been committed to supporting carers and easing their mental and physical burdens through various wellness and cultural activities. With its deep cultural understanding, multilingual skills, and strong community connections, CWCC is a vital bridge between carers and government services. Looking forward, CWCC remains dedicated to offering resources and support to help carers and other community members face life’s challenges with renewed resilience and compassion.
