Chung Wah Community Care (Chung Wah CC) participated in the Draw-Care user experience evaluations from March to April. Draw-Care is a 3-year project (2021 - 2024) produced by the National Ageing Research Institute, NARI. This project aims to support CaLD family carers, alleviate the carer's stress and improve the quality of life of the person with dementia. In addition, Draw-Care utilises animations, digital fact sheets, and a multilingual chatbot to provide practical support to CaLD family carers. Languages include Cantonese, Mandarin, Vietnamese, and more.
Participants provided constructive feedback and recommendations to NARI researchers via online video conferences in Cantonese and Mandarin. NARI sincerely thank Chung Wah CC's cooperation and partnership in this evaluation; this study outcome will also be relevant for countries where CaLD carers face similar challenges.
Furthermore, it is estimated more than 470,000 Australians are living with dementia. This number is expected to increase by 2058. In fact, 75% of the carers are non-professionals. Most of them are spouses, family members, friends or neighbours. Non-professional carers are not adequately trained to spot irregularities; they often need to spend an incredible amount of time and effort caring for the person with dementia. As a result, carers slowly feel isolated, experience stress and ultimately impact the quality of life.
Chung Wah Community Care (Chung Wah CC) has created a dementia-friendly environment so that people living with dementia can continue to feel included and supported. In addition, we provide culturally appropriate daycare services to carers. This can help alleviate some stress for caregivers, giving them sufficient rest and social activities.
Our community centres host regular workshops on dementia to increase awareness for senior consumers. We also promote information on NARI, such as the iSupport for Dementia Online Learning Program. The Carer Gateway team further helps individuals with CaLD backgrounds to receive free services to support carers.
Chung Wah has been servicing the WA community since 1909, dedicated to improving the quality of life of individuals from diverse backgrounds. Moreover, Chung Wah CC has over 35 years of professional care experience helping seniors and people with disability improve their well-being and better integrate into the community. In 2023, we're promoting our theme, Embrace, Elevate & Flourish, and build a better community for all.
