In the vibrant springtime of Perth, Chung Wah Community Care (CWCC) hosted a series of outdoor excursions in September 2025, offering seniors and community members joyful opportunities to connect with nature and embrace positive ageing. From flower-viewing at botanic gardens to lakeside and beachfront barbecues, and relaxed outdoor activities, every outing was designed to uplift both body and spirit.
On 26 September, members from Evergreen College gathered at Araluen Botanic Park for a spring excursion themed around “Flower Viewing and Nature Exploration”. Surrounded by blooming tulips and lush landscapes, participants immersed themselves in a serene and tranquil atmosphere.
Among them was a 93-year-old community member who joined independently, without assistance. He spent the day energetically capturing photos, even helping others take memorable group pictures. He shared his learning journey and outlook on life in conversation: "I'm still a student. Even at over ninety, I continue to self-learn — from Pinyin and computer skills to photography, image editing, and even creating with AI. Times are changing, and learning must never stop."
His story vividly expresses Evergreen College's "lifelong learning" spirit, inspiring others to explore new interests and skills. On-site, participants enjoyed the beautiful scenery and shared photography tips and learning experiences with one another, blending education and leisure in a balanced measure. Activities like this extend Evergreen College's philosophy beyond the classroom, integrating learning deeply into everyday life.
On 22 September, CWCC’s Willetton Community Hub brought 19 seniors to Bibra Lake Reserve for a spring outing. The day included light group warm-ups, fun games to spark interaction, and a classic Aussie-style barbecue by the lake. More than just a meal, the barbecue introduced seniors to a cherished local tradition — helping migrant seniors connect with the Australian lifestyle and feel the warmth of the community through food and fellowship.
Earlier, on 19 September, CWCC's Balcatta Community Hub hosted another spring excursion to the South Perth foreshore. With panoramic views of the city, fresh air, and gentle sunshine, it was a perfect outdoor setting for seniors to enjoy a day of walking, interactive games, and a social barbecue lunch. These spring outings successfully combined CWCC's learning philosophy with healthy living and community participation, bringing joy, inspiration, and connection through nature, education, and shared moments.
Whether through Evergreen College or the community hubs in Balcatta and Willetton, CWCC continues to provide meaningful pathways for seniors to experience active ageing at its best.
