The Carer Gateway team from Chung Wah Community Care (CWCC) participated in the annual Perth Chinese New Year Fair in Northbridge on February 11. This festival is the largest in Western Australia, richest in content, celebrating Chinese traditional culture and the Lunar New Year, attracting thousands from the community each year.
The CWCC Carer Gateway team set up a stall at the festival to extend New Year greetings to the community and promote the Carer Gateway programme. The team is keen on conveying an important message to the community members: "Carers need care too! And the Carer Gateway programme provides free and substantial support!"
It's easy for individuals to overlook that they are indeed carers. Suppose you provide unpaid care and assistance to a family member or friend who has a disability, illness, mental health condition or is frail or aged. In that case, you already qualify as a carer. The Carer Gateway programme is a free service initiated by the Australian government that offers emotional, social, and other substantial support to carers. CWCC is a member organisation of the Carer Gateway programme. It provides assessment services for carers from non-English speaking backgrounds, helping them access relevant information and support from the programme.
