On 14 May 2026, Chung Wah Community Care (CWCC) and Injury Matters held the “Improve Your Health” event at Bayswater Community Hub. About 60 seniors and community members attended the session, which covered fall prevention, healthy living, physical activity, and medication safety. Participants learned useful health tips through expert talks, exercise sessions, cooking demonstrations, and product displays, all in a friendly, enjoyable setting.

Before the event began, CWCC’s Chairperson and physiotherapist, Mrs Esther Cheng, spoke to the audience about why preventing falls is important for older adults. “A fall is often the beginning of a decline in health. After a single fall, many seniors experience reduced physical function, loss of confidence, and a decrease in their ability to live independently,” she explained.

She urged everyone to look after their health by learning practical ways to stay active and safe.

During the educational sessions, Renate from the Stay On Your Feet program discussed common causes of falls and how to prevent them. Participants learned that home safety, balance training, and maintaining muscle strength are important for reducing fall risk.

Greg Lim from Life Active Exercise led an interactive session where participants tried gentle movements to improve coordination. The group soon filled the room with laughter and enthusiasm, showing that exercise can be fun and helpful.

Pharmacist Kenny Lee talked about how medications can affect balance, alertness, and mobility, which may increase fall risk. He encouraged seniors to check their medications with healthcare professionals. Some participants said they had not considered how medicines might interact and felt inspired to talk more with their doctors and pharmacists.

Unicare also attended the event to showcase products that support independent living and make daily life safer. Participants could see the equipment up close and learn how simple tools can help. A lucky draw with some of these products made the day even more exciting.

Nutrition and healthy ageing were important topics at the event. Participants learned how good nutrition helps keep bones and muscles strong. CWCC volunteer and retired chef Ken gave a live cooking demonstration, and everyone enjoyed a healthy lunch together, giving them a chance to connect and share stories.

After the event, many participants thanked the organisers for the useful information and interactive sessions. Some suggested adding ongoing exercise support, outdoor activities, and more Chinese-language services to future programs to help seniors access health information more easily.

CWCC Senior Manager Nunu replied that many health strategies and activities from the event are already offered at CWCC Evergreen College. These include exercise classes, health seminars, community activities, and programs for both physical and mental wellbeing. She encouraged seniors to keep joining these activities and to take advantage of the opportunities at CWCC to build a healthier, safer, and more active life as they get older.
