As summer gently faded, CWCC’s Morley Evergreen College blossomed into a sanctuary of joy and wellbeing for local seniors, delivering a series of fun activities that nourished both body and mind. From calming chair yoga sessions and insightful talks to hands-on cooking workshops and an upcoming autumn excursion, we've seen radiant smiles and vibrant spirits shining throughout the season. Let's take a moment to reflect on these beautiful highlights—and get ready for more excitement in May!
Chair Yoga: Awakening Vitality in Comfort
On 28 April, Morley Evergreen College launched a six-week Chair Yoga Workshop designed specifically for seniors. With no need to kneel or lie down, participants engage in gentle stretches and guided breathing to improve flexibility, balance, and relaxation. The course runs every Monday (excluding public holidays), with upcoming sessions scheduled for 5, 12, 19, 26 May and 9 June. Participants are encouraged to stay consistent and develop healthy exercise routines.
Health Talk: Building Resilience from Within
CWCC’s support goes beyond your physical wellbeing and is also dedicated to uplifting seniors' mental health. On 17 March, guest speaker Andrew from Helping Minds led an inspiring session on "Emotional Resilience for Seniors." Over 40 participants engaged in this interactive workshop, where they discovered how to recognise emotional cues, build strong support networks, and embrace simple stress-reducing strategies. The practical insights gained were invaluable for enhancing personal wellbeing and empowering those who care for their loved ones.
Cooking Workshop: Nutrition Meets Flavour
On 7 April, the “Healthy Eating Made Simple” cooking class, led by nutritionist Simone Allen from Nutrition Works, proved a crowd favourite. Through a relaxed, hands-on session, participants learned the fundamentals of nutrition and how to create two delicious and healthy bowl meals: a Mexican burrito bowl and a teriyaki tofu noodle salad. The class offered both education and inspiration for everyday healthy eating.
