Do you know the most popular dance among seniors? Dance instructor Sandy has the answer at Chung Wah Community Care (CWCC) community hubs. Her hand dance class has quickly become a favourite, captivating many seniors.
Sandy has volunteered at CWCC since 2019 and recently joined Evergreen College as a dance instructor. With a background in nursing and general practice, she has a deep understanding of seniors' needs. She passionately promotes hand dancing, which combines coordinated movements to improve balance and stimulate the brain. Sandy's true joy is seeing seniors experience the delight of "moving both body and mind" in sync with the rhythm.
Sandy spent six months mastering hand dancing and refining her teaching methods before officially taking on the role. She adapted her moves for seniors with limited mobility and reassured her students with the phrase: "Don't rush; take your time and enjoy the process." Her supportive approach has made every session stress-free and enjoyable.
Despite the challenges of commuting and exhaustion, Sandy's commitment to volunteer work truly demonstrates her passion for giving back to her community. Her dedication to preparing and leading the dance classes at the Balcatta Community Hub and brightening CWCC's big events is truly inspiring.
At 69 years old, Sandy is a shining example of healthy, active aging. She credits her vibrant health and energy to her active lifestyle and positive outlook. Through her work, Sandy hopes to inspire others to embrace positive aging by spreading the benefits of staying active and engaged. Her dedication has inspired many to join her, including her students Zhang Junqiu, Xiao Lei, and Cola, who often accompany her to CWCC events, bringing warmth and joy to the seniors.
