Born in 1945, Mr Ong is an Indonesian Chinese senior who migrated to Australia a few years ago. Now living with his daughters, he initially felt isolated in this unfamiliar country. However, he has since found a sense of belonging at Chung Wah Community Care (CWCC).
Recently discharged from the hospital after receiving treatment for health issues, Mr Ong couldn’t wait to return to CWCC’s Willetton Community Hub. He shared, “I really missed my friends here—missed this big family.”
Despite his age and physical limitations, Mr Ong radiates positivity and makes the most of each day. He enjoys exercise, socialising, and good food, and every activity at CWCC brings him joy. Singing, in particular, has become his special passion.
A multilingual singer, Mr Ong shines when performing Japanese songs. He always carries a treasured collection of Japanese music CDs in his bag, ready to step into the spotlight during karaoke sessions. “The applause from friends makes me feel appreciated and proud,” he said. His exceptional voice has earned him admiration and helped him connect with like-minded friends within the CWCC community.
Beyond the camaraderie, Mr Ong has also received thoughtful care at CWCC. From professional health assessments by clinical teams to personalised meal plans, the attention to detail has not gone unnoticed. After he was discharged from the hospital, CWCC promptly organised a follow-up health check and tailored a recovery diet specifically for him. “Here, I truly feel the warmth of home,” he remarked.
Though aging and physical challenges present their own hurdles, Mr Ong refuses to let them define his life. He firmly believes that every moment holds possibilities. With hope in his heart and through meaningful interactions with others, he strives to make every day purposeful.
