Harmony Week 2025 has arrived once again, marking an important time to break down cultural barriers and promote social inclusion. In celebration of this significant occasion, Chung Wah Community Care (CWCC) organised a series of engaging activities designed to foster connections among diverse communities. These events provide the broader public with an opportunity to experience the richness of multiculturalism up close.
On 14 March, the prestigious Western Australia Multicultural Awards ceremony took place in Perth. CWCC CEO Theresa Kwok was invited as a guest judge, joining industry experts to recognise this year's outstanding contributors to cultural diversity. Compared to previous years, the award nominees came from a broader range of sectors, including education, business, and public services, demonstrating impressive achievements in multicultural engagement.
As one of Western Australia's leading CaLD (Culturally and Linguistically Diverse) service organisations, CWCC has long been committed to supporting diverse communities and promoting cross-cultural understanding. Theresa's role as a judge reflected CWCC's professional credibility and standing as a community service benchmark. "It was an honour to participate in selecting these exceptional contributors," said Theresa. "Seeing so many people working hard to foster inclusion was truly inspiring."
On 19 March, Mirrabooka Square was buzzing with activity as CWCC's carefully curated cultural stall became the highlight of the event. The faint scent of ink filled the air as CWCC's calligraphy volunteers demonstrated their skills, brushing elegant strokes of the Chinese character "福" (meaning good fortune) onto rice paper—captivating many passers-by.
Families with young children gathered around to have a go at writing under the guidance of volunteers. "I never realised how much technique goes into every stroke," remarked one local resident trying calligraphy for the first time. "It's much more fun than I expected!"
In addition to the calligraphy showcase, the CWCC stall featured an interactive quiz and information desk, where staff patiently introduced their wide range of services. As a leading CaLD service provider in Western Australia, CWCC is dedicated to supporting seniors and people with disability from culturally diverse backgrounds. From Mandarin and Cantonese to Vietnamese, CWCC offers professional multilingual services to ensure that non-English-speaking residents receive equal care and support. Whether it is home care, mental health support, or organising social activities, CWCC remains committed to its mission of "serving the community and promoting inclusion," helping new migrants integrate more smoothly into Australian society.
From the graceful art of calligraphy to its thoughtful, multilingual services, CWCC continues to embody the true spirit of Harmony Week—demonstrating through real action the power of connection and inclusion. CWCC will continue to deepen its services and broaden cultural understanding, contributing to a more harmonious and inclusive Western Australia.
