On April 1, Chung Wah Community Care (CWCC) held a donation ceremony at the Balcatta Community Hub. They presented $5,897.10 to the Autism Association of Western Australia to help people on the autism spectrum and their families. Erin Kavanagh, Communications and Marketing Manager at the Autism Association, attended and joined community members to witness this generous act.

During the ceremony, CWCC CEO Theresa Kwok JP and Chairperson Esther Chang handed over the cheque to Erin. She thanked CWCC and everyone involved, saying the donation would offer real and valuable help to families who need it.

April is Autism Awareness Month, and colourful spectrum symbols appear across Perth. Each colour stands for the uniqueness of every person. Theresa said multicultural communities are much the same, with each culture and person bringing their own identity, all of which are worthy of understanding and respect. Since 1967, the Autism Association of Western Australia has been one of the country’s leading specialist organisations, offering services such as early intervention, education, life skills, and family support.

CWCC hopes that supporting organisations like this will help more families and build a stronger spirit of care in the community.

The funds came from this year’s Perth Chinese New Year Cultural Festival in February, where CWCC ran carnival-style games, and all proceeds went to the fundraiser. Later, at the 14th CWCC Longevity Luncheon, proceeds from the sale of calligraphy couplets and red packets from the lion dance troupe were also added to the donation.

For CWCC, giving back is a key part of its community culture. Many seniors who have built their lives in Australia with government and societal support want to show their gratitude by giving back in their own ways. Through fundraising, donations, and community projects, they turn goodwill into real action.

CWCC has been part of the Western Australian community for many years and stays connected by taking social responsibility seriously. In the past, CWCC has raised money for groups like Guide Dogs WA and has helped during major bushfires and floods across Australia.

Small moments, like games at festivals or handwritten calligraphy at community events, add up to a big impact that goes beyond the community. Through these efforts, CWCC serves its seniors and also shares care, compassion, and connection with the wider society.
