On 13 February, Chung Wah Community Care (CWCC) Morley Evergreen College hosted its first cultural outing, taking a group of seniors on an enriching visit to the Western Australian Museum’s "WA Treasures" Exhibition. The day continued with a joyful lunch at Chung Wah Association, followed by an informative seminar on aged care services. Through cultural immersion, social engagement, and knowledge sharing, the seniors gained a deeper understanding of community resources, making this experience truly meaningful.

During the museum tour, a Mandarin-speaking guide provided detailed explanations of the exhibits, helping seniors appreciate their historical and cultural significance. They frequently paused to admire artifacts and share thoughts, expressing gratitude for the opportunity to engage with local culture in a familiar language, which enhanced their experience.

One of the highlights of the visit was the impressive 24-metre-long blue whale skeleton, "Otto", suspended from the ceiling. This specimen, washed ashore in 1897 and carefully preserved for over a century, tells a powerful story of humanity’s relationship with nature and the importance of conservation. Through the guided tour, the seniors gained new insights into Western Australia’s rich historical collections and felt a profound sense of connection between people, nature, and culture.

Following the museum visit, the group gathered for lunch at Chung Wah Hall, where they shared their reflections on the exhibition over delicious food. The atmosphere was filled with laughter and interactive discussions, creating a fantastic opportunity for social bonding.

The afternoon session featured a practical information seminar on aged care services and the Carer Gateway program, offering seniors valuable guidance on accessing government-funded aged care and caregiver support services. The session answered key questions, helping seniors better understand their entitlements and options and empowering them to plan for a well-supported and fulfilling later life.

This outing not only enriched the seniors' cultural experiences but also strengthened their sense of belonging within the community. As people age, social circles tend to shrink, and access to information becomes limited. Events like these serve as a bridge to break isolation, rebuild social connections, and provide emotional enrichment, ensuring seniors continue to feel supported and valued.
