Exciting Adventures Alert! Chung Wah Community Care (CWCC) recently took our amazing seniors on TWO fun excursions to vibrant Fremantle, stepping away from daily routines to soak up the sunshine, enjoy the sea breeze, and take in the beautiful blend of nature and heritage.
On the day of the outing, seniors met at the CWCC community hub and were transported to Fremantle by CWCC's chartered bus. Accompanied by staff, they enjoyed a leisurely walk along the waterfront boardwalk, with seagulls overhead and the ocean breeze on their faces.
Throughout the walk, CWCC staff sparked lively discussions with fun trivia such as “Where does the name Fremantle come from?" and "Is this water from the Pacific or the Indian Ocean?" These questions prompted enthusiastic participation and thoughtful exchanges and helped foster new bonds among participants.
For lunch, CWCC thoughtfully prepared local favourites, fish and chips, with vegetarian options to cater to everyone’s dietary needs, highlighting CWCC’s attention to detail and professionalism. Even while enjoying a day out, CWCC maintained its commitment to healthy habits. A gentle post-lunch stroll along Bather’s Beach to the Fremantle Fishing Boat Harbour was arranged, complete with rest stops to ensure that seniors of all physical abilities could participate comfortably.
During the outing, new friendships were formed. Two participants, previously strangers, found themselves walking at the same pace, gradually holding hands and supporting one another. A CWCC staff member who witnessed the moment remarked, “Sometimes, a single outing is the beginning of a new friendship.” This genuine connection among seniors reflects the sense of belonging CWCC continuously strives to nurture.
On the journey home, the bus was filled with spontaneous sing-alongs of classic oldies. Seniors who had not known each other before the day chatted warmly and looked out for one another. The Fremantle excursion provided a meaningful combination of nature therapy, physical activity, and social interaction, making it a truly memorable day for everyone.
Just as the waves of Fremantle gently wash against its ancient rocks day after day, CWCC’s community outings leave a lasting impact on the hearts of seniors, rekindling their passion for life. As Perth’s hot weather gradually eases, CWCC looks forward to organising more excursions to help seniors embrace local living with renewed energy.
