In early June, the Filipino Australian Club of Perth (FACPI) organised a large banquet at Crown Perth to commemorate the 126th Philippine Independence Day. Chung Wah Community Care (CWCC), an important community partner of FACPI in Perth, was also invited to participate in the celebration, where they helped promote the rich cultural heritage of the Philippines and fostered multicultural friendships.
FACPI was established in 1986 and has been dedicated to serving Filipino immigrants, helping them better integrate into Western Australian life. As an outstanding institution serving ethnic minorities, CWCC understands the challenges faced by seniors from Asian cultural backgrounds living abroad. For decades, CWCC has supported the integration and development of immigrants in Western Australia. The shared backgrounds and similar goals have closely linked FACPI and CWCC. Through cooperation, joint events, and sharing of resources and experiences, they promote cultural exchange and understanding and strengthen community cohesion and mutual support.
At the banquet, FACPI leaders highlighted their partnership with CWCC, dating back to the 1990s. FACPI sought to learn from CWCC's successful programs for multicultural seniors in order to better serve the local Filipino community. With CWCC's support, the FACPI Seniors Subcommittee organised outings for Filipino seniors, including tours of the Chung Wah Hall and the Perth Mint. FACPI also arranged for community members to attend the CWCC Balcatta Community Hub Open Day, where they were inspired by the vibrant spirit of the seniors.
Every Monday, the CWCC Balcatta Community Hub is enlivened by the presence of Filipino seniors singing traditional Filipino songs and dancing the Salakot, bringing a lively atmosphere to the community. This close cooperation promotes cultural exchange between the Filipino and Chinese communities, adding joy and meaning to the seniors' lives.
CWCC is committed to serving clients from various cultural backgrounds, including China, Vietnam, Cambodia, Myanmar, Singapore, Malaysia, and Spanish-speaking countries. It continually welcomes seniors from all cultures into its service group. As a responsible community member, CWCC actively assists other organisations serving seniors from different cultural backgrounds, becoming a strong supporter of cultural identity and a steadfast ally for ethnic minority seniors. This spirit of selflessness and broad support is at the heart of CWCC's vision: to create a better community for everyone.
