As the nation celebrated Harmony Week in March, Chung Wah Community Care (Chung Wah CC) also welcomed Hon. Dr Tony Buti MLA (Minister for Education; Aboriginal Affairs; Citzenship & Multicultural Interests), VIP guests and seniors to celebrate Harmony Week at the Willetton Community Hub. The hub was filled with positive energy and bright orange-coloured balloons to celebrate this special occasion and distinguished guests.
Did you know that the orange colour represents harmony and respect and is the colour of Harmony Week?
After the Sharpville Massacre on March 21, 1960, which killed and injured hundreds of protesters in Apartheid, the United Nations has designated the day to facilitate discussions and take action against racial discrimination. Harmony Day was first held in Australia in 1999, and for many, it is a reminder that our differences are made to be celebrated.
Harmony Week celebrates Australia's cultural diversity, which in turn brings with it a whole host of traditions, religions, languages and food. In fact, food has the power to gather people together. So, to celebrate this year's Harmony Week, Chung Wah CC prepared some delicious and juicy dumplings for everyone to enjoy. The aromatic flavour of the dumplings filled the air as our honoured guests and seniors were transported to Northeastern China.
The exchange of food is the exchange of culture. For Ms Yang, from the Northern part of China, dumplings bring many childhood memories during the Lunar New Year. However, dumplings have their own history too. The shape of the dumpling, cooking techniques and ingredient stuffings all matter. Thus, senior consumers and guests enjoyed the mouth-watering dumplings creating an unforgettable Harmony Week celebration.
