This year, Chung Wah Community Care (CWCC) brought people together for the Dragon Boat Festival with two lively celebrations at the Balcatta and Willetton Community Hubs on 17 and 19 June. The events were full of cultural traditions, shared stories, and joyful moments, helping everyone feel more connected to the community.
The Balcatta celebration on 17 June was buzzing with laughter and conversation. Chung Wah Association President Andy, CWCC Board Chair Esther, and CEO Theresa joined community members in celebrating the special occasion.

A highlight of the day was the creative "Dragon Boat Racing on Land" activity. Staff used colourful pool noodles as paddles, showed everyone how to row, and then invited teams to join in. The room soon filled with smiles, laughter, and cheers as everyone enjoyed the fun and teamwork of indoor dragon boat racing.
Another favourite activity was the traditional rice dumpling (zongzi) workshop. CWCC provided bamboo leaves, glutinous rice, and tasty fillings so everyone could make their own treats. People from different backgrounds shared their wrapping skills, family traditions, and recipes, sparking conversations that connected cultures and generations.

Joined in for the first time for rice dumpling-making were Andy, Esther, and Theresa, with help from CWCC volunteers. They learned each step, from folding the leaves and adding rice to tying the dumplings. Their participation showed how sharing these traditions brings people together.
At the event, President Andy spoke about why traditional festivals are important for Chinese communities living overseas. "Traditional festivals carry the memories of our culture and strengthen our connection to our heritage. Even when we are far from our homeland, our culture continues to give us a sense of belonging and allows us to find the warmth of home through Chung Wah Community Care."

The celebrations continued on 19 June at the Willetton Community Hub. There, participants learned about the history, customs, and meaning of the Dragon Boat Festival through a fun trivia session. The friendly competition and laughter helped everyone discover more about this special tradition.
The Willetton celebration had a special guest, Federal Member of Parliament Sam Lim, who joined in the festivities and shared his best wishes. He spoke about how cultural celebrations like the Dragon Boat Festival help people from different backgrounds connect, learn from each other, and build a stronger, more welcoming community.

As communities celebrate the Dragon Boat Festival, CWCC sends its warmest wishes to everyone. We hope this special time brings you good health, happiness, and family togetherness. May the spirit of this tradition keep bringing people together for many years.
