The Chung Wah Association Bentley Community Hub reached an important milestone in June when concrete was poured for the building’s foundations. This shift from site preparation to the next stage of construction brings the community’s vision closer to reality.
On 5 June, CWCC CEO Theresa, Senior Manager Nunu, Chung Wah Association Council members, government representatives, and project contractors visited the site to witness this milestone and hear the latest updates on the development.

Since the official sod-turning ceremony in January 2026, construction has progressed steadily. The site, at the corner of Hedley Street and Nyamup Way in Bentley, covers about 7,000 square metres and has received land and construction funding from the Western Australian Government. When finished, the facility will be a modern community hub offering cultural activities, community services, educational programs, and support for seniors in one place.
For CWCC, this project means more than building a facility. It represents the hopes, generosity, and shared vision of many community members, especially the seniors who have supported it from the beginning.

In 2025, CWCC supported the community fundraising campaign started by Chung Wah Association by hosting several fundraising events at its Balcatta and Willetton Community Hubs. Seniors responded enthusiastically with their donations. In just three rounds, more than $18,200 was raised for the future Bentley Community Centre.
Among the many donors were individuals who gave multiple times, while others chose to contribute despite living on limited retirement incomes. One senior donor reflected:
“The opportunities we enjoy today were built through the efforts of those who came before us. Now it is my turn to contribute in whatever way I can.”

Stories like this reflect the strong spirit of generosity that keeps the community growing. With many people working together, a shared vision has grown from an idea into a real project that will help future generations.
The current plans for the centre include multi-purpose activity spaces, meeting rooms, areas for youth and families, and aged care day respite and support services. The facility will offer culturally appropriate and accessible services for seniors from diverse Chinese and other backgrounds, helping meet the community’s growing needs.

CWCC, as the community services branch of Chung Wah Association, is excited to use the new facility to expand its aged care services, health programs, community education, and intercultural activities. The hub will give residents in Perth’s southern suburbs more chances to access services, connect with others, and take part in community life.
From the generous donations by seniors to the concrete now poured into the foundations, every step shows the community’s trust, commitment, and hopes. As construction continues, CWCC looks forward to sharing more milestones and celebrating the new community landmark as it takes shape, representing cultural heritage, community ties, and a shared vision for the future.
